Randall Smith, “Collision” (1996)

Using a computer program called SuperCollider I was able to granulize the three ‘given’ sounds. I also used water sounds for the beginning and one singing bowl sound for the end. The piece opens up like The Big Bang. The particles produced from this bang form rhythms gesturing the movements of atoms colliding into one another creating patterns. As these patterns evolve the intensity builds in the piece to a crescendo. Finally, we hear the sounds that conceived this piece.

À l’aide du logiciel SuperCollider j’ai ‘granulé’ les trois sons ‘fournis’. J’ai aussi utilisé des sons d’eau pour le début et un de bol pour la fin. Ce morceau débute comme le «Big Bang». Les particules formées par ce bang forment des rythmes reproduisant le mouvement des atomes se cognant les uns aux autres, créant des motifs. À mesure que ces motifs évoluent, l’intensité monte vers un crescendo. Finalement, nous entendons les sons qui ont conçu ce morceau.
