About “Contemplations”

“Contemplations” is an album of introspection and reflection, and gestures towards new perspectives. The included works have been composed over the course of the past decade, and charts a prolonged engagement with the medium of sound (from objects to places, feelings to experiences).

The passing of time remains an important focus within the album. Throughout, sound stands on the edge of the abyss of being; it is evanescent, a temporal fading that passes just as it arrives. “Tick” (2015) and “Elapsing” (2021-22) bookend the compositions, articulating the evolution of my compositional thinking throughout this period, with its disjunct levels of contemplative reflection.

À propos de «Contemplations»

«Contemplations» est un album d’introspection, de réflexion, qui pointe vers de nouvelles perspectives. Les œuvres qu’il contient, composées au cours des dix dernières années, font la chronique d’un engagement prolongé avec le son, autant le son des objets que celui des lieux, le son des émotions que celui des expériences.

Le passage du temps est un élément important de cet album. Du début à la fin, le son se tient au bord du précipice de l’existence; évanescent, il passe aussi rapidement qu’il arrive, dans un jeu d’estompe temporelle. En ouverture et en clôture de l’album, «Tick» (2015) et «Elapsing» (2021-22) articulent l’évolution de mon approche compositionnelle au cours de cette période, avec ses divers niveaux de réflexion contemplative.
